The comeback of the Terror

Brutal… Oh so Brutal… The victim cuts the stillness, with agonized cries wounding the night. Just another shot of terrorism existence.

It was an awakening the moment I saw the truth. It has again gained lamentable catalogue of human crime. A living proof of a never ending battle against terrorism.

I was working the PM shift (3:00 to 11:00) as OPD (Out- Patient Department) student nurse with Elein at Kidapawan Doctors Hospital Emergency Room when two loud boom shattered the quiet atmosphere. Then we found out it was explosion of two bombs launched consecutively at the Recreation Center and Imperial Plaza in Quezon Boulevard. It is approximately 1000 meters (For all Kidapawenos; correct me, if I’m wrong) away from the hospital.

At around 7:35, the ER started to get flooded with injured innocent civilians. Weeping… Crying… Asking for help… My heart pounded. I was shocked for a while. It was my first time to handle a situation like that. Aside from the ER resident physician, nurses on duty, my co- student nurses and our clinical instructor, a group of physicians and paramedics showed up offering their help. As student nurses, we started working with them immediately doing whatever we could. It’s very comforting to see the way the staff came together and did what had to be done. It also gives me a sense of satisfaction that I have done something even the littlest amount of care I gave (offered).

The reactions and words shared by the victims and witnesses raised my spirit and broken my heart at the same time. Is there any place in the world worth to be called safe? Every place has been put onto suspicion. Everyone gets feared that anytime a bomb would explode. We lived in constant fear lest the storm that every moment threatens should break upon us with dreadful violence.

It make matters worse for the aggrieved parties. The unfortunate event have seeded its wrath and to most people, it would take away lives of scores. So who’s to blame? Is it the security forces that were accused of being lax in their duties? Is it the local government for not foreseeing any possible incident?

While the people responsible for the tragedy are still loose (According to Philippines police chief Avelino Razon, the attack was the trademark of the al-Qaida-linked Jemaah Islamiyah rebel group, which also is also linked with local Muslim terrorist group, the Abu Sayyaf.) and while we are still in the eye of the storm, how to achieve safety and security? I guess, NONE. All we can do now is to pray. For its only our trust in Him that would make us safe and be secured. How can we attain peace? It is something to think about.

The currently held news about bombing here in Kidapawan killed an 8-year old girl and her cousin, 12 y.o. and injured to 22 others. Life is sacred; therefore we must respect its sanctity.

P.S.: The incident was something solid to slap on our faces. Be an eye- opener. God bless…

Fun, Free and Full of Possibilities

These are three ingredients that make my October 27, 2007 a cut above the rest. At feeling ko, pinagkakaguluhan ako ng press… :-) Joke lang…

The 1st Mindanao Blogger’s Summit at NCCC Mall Activity Center and the Blogger’s Fellowship Night at Casa Habana are the most awaited events of my blogging years. Pegged on the theme, “Spotlight Mindanao: Blogging for Culture, Identity and Understanding”, the one-day activity aimed to enhance the skills of blogging and its benefits, foster camaraderie among bloggers and of course to promote peace and understanding in Mindanao(re: the theme)… The occasion had a profound impact on each and every true- blooded blogger.

The two events was spearheaded by the Usual Suspects and participated by a hundred bloggers coming from Manila and Mindanao.

I arrived at around 11AM. Yes, I’m late… My apology. To tell you, di sana ako makapunta kasi supposedly may home visit ako related to my Psychiatric nursing sa Matalam and Makilala, North Cotabato but there’s no signs na matutuloy, so I decided to join. At dahil na rin sa kakulitan ni Kuya Bryan. Thank you kuya Bryce! Heheh. Later ko na rin nalaman nang nasa Bansalan na ako na matutuloy ang home visit. So, I asked my permission to my group mates and my clinical instructor na di ako makasali. Buti na lang pumayag.

MBS1 was jammed by Kuya Migs. It was complemented by top-notch speakers who stamped their individual mark. Mr. Bob Martin’s Blogging in Mindanao: Travel and Technology shared his Mindanao travels through pictures. Fr. Albert Alejo, SJ discussed about Socio- Cultural Mindset of the Mindanaoan. After a yummy lunch from Dimsun Diner, a special video greeting from Aillen Apolo and Matt Mullenweg were shown. Then it was followed with Kim Castillo’s “Transition from “Emo” to Niche Blogging, Jayvee Fernandez’s Blogging as a way of life: Problogging and new Media, Marc Macalua’s How to Optimize your WordPress blog for Top Search Rankings and ended with Session’s with A-List Bloggers. And one more thing, I got also a chance to promote my blog and won an IBM notebook. Heheh, thanks Kuya Migs and Kuya Bloggie..

The blogger’s fellowship night at Casa Habana was colored by Abet (a stand- up comedian) and of course, fabulous snacks! It was the night of all night.

After the fellowship, kuya Bloggie gave us a treat together with Kuya Bryan, kuya Mark Paul, kuya Ayel, Aethen, Mikko and Kuya Jayvee at Fwendz diner.

I have finally proven that the 1st Mindanao Blogger’s summit and Fellowship night provided a nice avenue for bloggers across Mindanao and from Manila to be acquainted with each other.

A pat on the back of the people who worked hard during the summit and fellowship night. To the Usual Suspects, Special Event sponsors, Major Sponsors, Minor Sponsors and Donors, thank you very much!

Surely everyone enjoyed it and indeed, a great success!

Until next time… See yah!

Godspeed.
